Auld Family
Wilberforce Riesling Auld Family
The Auld family have a long history in the Barossa, dating back to 1842 when Patrick Auld planted the Auldana vineyard just outside Adelaide. Now, over 150 years later, Sam & Jock are producing wines that capture the rich environment of their home state while adding another chapter to the family’s storied history; hoping to one day inspire yet another generation of Aulds to carry on the legacy.
Named after William Patrick Auld’s 17 hand chestnut stallion, Wilberforce is a true work horse of the Auld range. Classic Eden Valley Riesling, showing intense floral aromas coupled with hints of citrus on the nose. Lots of depth on the palate, with notes of lime and clementine. A long mineral finish. The vineyards are located at the southern end of the valley, protecting them from much of the searing summer heat. The grapes were picked overnight in early March at perfect ripeness. Lower yields produced intensity and chalkiness in the fruit.
