Siddura

Spera Vermentino di Gallura DOCG

£18.50

It is difficult to get one's bearings among the awards won by this white wine from the Siddùra winery. In Italy, and around the world, authoritative juries have repeatedly indicated it as one of the most interesting Italian wines. Maìa, Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Superiore, is the first wine born in the company from a careful selection of the best grapes. A Vermentino of great character, son of a unique terroir, perfect for guaranteeing ideal ripening of the bunches on the vine. Sandy soils of ancient granite origin and a microclimate that can simply be described as 'optimal'. These are the 'simple' ingredients of a white that its producers assure... 'tastes of Gallura'. 100% Vermentino, after destemming, the grapes are cooled and left to macerate in a stainless steel tank for 2-3 days at a temperature of 2 degrees. Only then is pressing carried out to extract the precious aromatic precursors contained in the skins. At the end of the transformation, the wine continues its slow maturation period 'sur lies', i.e. in contact with its yeasts. Already good today, this Vermentino labelled Siddùra has a good maturation capacity. In the bottle, if well stored, it can safely continue to evolve for a period of over 5 years.

Brought to the table today, it presents itself with a beautiful deep straw yellow colour. The nose is typical, with its beautiful bouquet of yellow-fleshed fruit and white flowers. In the mouth, however, it proves to be a pleasantly fresh and savoury wine, with a good balance of flavour and a bitter almond finish typical for the variety. It can be served very well as an aperitif, with the certainty that all guests will ask to continue with the same wine at the table. Excellent with first and second courses based on fish, it has the right stuff and character to accompany even white meats and medium-aged cheeses.
