Domaine de Chevalier

Domaine de Chevalier L'Esprit de Chevalier

£48.00

An illustrious Grand Cru Classé de Graves estate situated in the appellation of Pessac-Léognan. Producing superbly balanced and long-lived reds and white wines, the estate has been in the hands of the Bernard family since 1983. Olivier Bernard took over the running of the estate, and he still manages this family property with passion today. At Domaine de Chevalier, the historic co-existence of vineyard and forest is a major natural asset. The extension of organic and biodynamic farming to all vineyards managed by Domaine de Chevalier, since 2021, is a decisive step on the path that has been followed since 2010. The vineyard benefits from a microclimate and biodiversity providing benefits that combine to create a high-quality ecosystem. It is thanks to the strengh of its terroir, and also to a very selective approach, that Domaine de Chevalier is recognized for its ability to produce great wines.

The entire estate covers a hundred hectares, 45 of which are under vine: 40 of these are devoted to producing red wine and 5 to white wine. The grapes are carefully sorted in the vineyard as well as before and after destemming. The vinification takes place in four vat rooms (steel, stainless steel, concrete “tulip” and wooden vats). Ageing takes 14 months in barrel. The average age of the vines are 30-40 years old.

Soft, and expressive, this is simply impeccable. The purity of the flavours is striking. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and dried herbs add striking perfume to a core of supple red berry fruit.
