Beaumont Jackals River Pinotage

The Beaumont Winery is a family run vineyard situated in the quaint village of Bot River in the Walker Bay area of the south west Cape of South Africa. Jayne and Raoul Beaumont bought the farm Compagnes Drift in 1974 and set about replanting the vineyards. However, the legacy of creating wines in the farm cellar under the family name was only initiated some years later. Since then the wines have born the crest of the Beaumont family. Originally found in the family signet ring, the roaring lion represents honour and courage and serves as a symbolic message of balance – a quality synonymous with their wines. The crest pays homage to their roots and represents the connection between farmland and family. Jayne and Raoul’s son, Sebastian Beaumont, is the present winemaker at the farm. We always love visiting the Beaumont family on their delightful wine farm staying in an old converted cowshed, swimming in the picturesque dam and enjoying the walking trails and wild flowers of the Estate, as well as tasting some fantastic wines. Sebastian Beaumont, the Viticulturist and winemaker, specialises in old vine Chenin Blanc, Mourvedre, Shiraz, Pinotage, a Bordeaux blend and even some “port” style wines.

The Beaumont Pinotage has been beautifully crafted with 24 months in 25% American and 75% French oak. 35% new oak was selected for the final wine. 80% of the fruit comes from our 48 year old vines providing dryness and structure while the younger portion provides lovely vibrant fruit. This is the perfect example of elegance and finesse which can be found in Pinotage. Red berries, plums and cherries on the nose, followed by a palate of excellent balance, structure and appealing sweet berry ripeness. As the wine ages autumn flavours become more apparent. It will keep for up to 10 years.
